Liz and Mike's Famous Bali Wedding
Mike and Liz's wedding was certainly one of the highlights of the 2015 wedding season. With friends and family travelling from all over the globe and the most special of surprise presents from the maid of honour this was truly a famous destination wedding celebration.
Mike and I had celebrated our 10 years together as a couple at the stunning Whitsundays and thought it would be fitting that we held our wedding there. But upon consulting with Craig, Botanica Weddings Client Services Manager, he suggested we considered a Bali wedding, based on the information we supplied on his questionnaire.
Initially I had reservations about holding a wedding in Bali because my friends who held their weddings there had faced many unforeseen challenges. Craig knew about all these challenges and addressed them before I could even mention them! I was impressed.
Bali made sense because it was far more convenient and affordable for our guests. And of course, it is an amazing holiday destination with something to offer every type of traveller.
Mike and I do not have family in Australia. I am from Singapore and he is from France. Our closest friends and family are dispersed across the world (UK, Japan, Singapore, Malaysia, USA, and also Perth, where Mike and I lived for about 6 years). Craig knocked our socks off with his presentation, his excellent follow-up service and knowledge about the wedding industry in Bali. Botanica Weddings have structured their offering in such a way that it provides complete peace of mind and confidence in the whole wedding process and on the actual day. It was important to us to have our own planner as we did not want the hassles of planning and coordinating the event ourselves. It was also great knowing the final cost of our entire wedding package upfront so we had no nasty surprises.
We stayed in Bali for 10 days. We arrived 3 days before the wedding and on the second day, we had a casual sunset photo session at Tanah Lot with our photographer and videographer Guj from Redsheep who is based in the Philippines.
The day before the wedding, we had a welcome pool party for all our guests. I had booked out almost all the villas at Surya Kembar Ubud as the accommodation for most guests. This secured us a large private pool area just metres from where our guests stayed. The owner of the villas organised all our food, drinks, bartendering, pool-side massages, music...everything! It was a stellar evening that went on from 4pm till past midnight, and was a great ice-breaker for our guests before the formal wedding. Many of us including Mike and I were a bit worse for wear the next morning, so luckily we didn't have to start the day too early!
We were able to spend more relaxation time with our guests after the wedding as many of them stayed in Surya Kembar Villas. When most of them had departed, Mike and I moved to Pan Pacific Nirwana for our 5-day honeymoon, gifted by Botanica Weddings. Another sensational experience in a 5-star resort by the stunning coast of Tanah Lot.

We didn't have a definite theme to our wedding day, but just a general relaxed elegance style. Comfort and practicality was essential for an outdoor tropical wedding, so that everyone could relax and have a great time.
The teals and blues in the bridal party's outfits were colours we wanted to continue through from our legal solemnisation in Melbourne on 8 August 2014.
My wedding dress was a simple but elegant satin-silk sheath dress by Maggie Sottero, with jewel-encrusted capped sleeves and a plunging back. It was perfect for my petite frame and the hot Balinese weather.
I wanted my bridesmaids to be able to reuse and easily personalise their dresses, so I chose a flowing convertible dress for them. The boys' sky-blue cotton outfits with navy shoes and accessories suited the climate and still retained a level of formality.

Mid-reception, I changed into a pale green silk Chinese cheong-sam with pink french lace and Swarovski beads. This dress was extra special because it was lent to me by a very good friend who wore it for her own wedding. It was custom-made for her, and we are about the same size and height Mike and Liz were gifted the most amazing of wedding gifts from their maid of honour. A special surprise that the couple had absolutely no idea about and provided an unforgettable reception experience for the couple and all their guests. We asked Liz to tell us a little more about why her maid of honour went to this extra special effort of organising famous girl group Wilson Phillips to perform at her closest friends wedding.
The moment I realised it was the real Wilson Phillips performing on stage was so overwhelming and I could not believe I got to sing "Hold On" with them! Luckily I still remembered all the words from when I was an admiring teen fan.
Mike and I had attempted to have a wedding a few years ago, but we were so overwhelmed that we postponed it. The movie Bridesmaids was released around the time when we were planning it then. My maid of honour Jaclyn lives in Singapore and my other bridesmaid Joanelle lives in California. After I watched the movie, I emailed them to tell them how hilarious it was and that I missed them and wished they could be with me through the process.
We had the most amazing time dancing after the reception dinner and Wilson Philips even joined us for this too!

This story was shared far and wide, making it on to Good Morning America and back round to Australia on Sunrise.
